How to Make a Roman Toga (BECOMING ARTSY 308)
In this episode of Becoming Artsy, Jessie endeavors to update the classic Getty video “How to Wear a Toga the Ancient Roman Way”, alongside archeologist and educator, Janessa Reeves. In this video, the two roman empire enthusiasts show audiences not only how to wrap and wear a toga, but how to make and sew one for themselves! Together they travel to the Los Angeles fashion district, sew an authentic Augustan toga, visit the Ancient Roman portraiture gallery at the Getty Villa, and wrap their toga with the help of Shelby Brown and Desiree Zenowich in the Getty Villa’s famous outer peristyle.

Isaiah 45:1,4-6 NIV [1] “This is what the Lord says to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I take hold of to subdue nations before him and to strip kings of their armor, to open doors before him so that gates will not be shut: [4] For the sake of Jacob my servant, of Israel my chosen, I summon you by name and bestow on you a title of honor, though you do not acknowledge me. [5] I am the Lord, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God. I will strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged me, [6] so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting people may know there is none besides me. I am the Lord, and there is no other.

Cyrus never believed God of Jacob was sovereign but, unbeknownst to him, that very God moved in his spirit to restore the Jews to Israel after the exiles. He is the only true God and God prophesied Cyrus (by name!!) 150 years before he lived!! No other religion has done this!! Read Isaiah 45 and 46.

Reminds me of my GREAT KILT... it's a huge, huge piece of fabric. Also, lots of folds and you have to know what you're doing it get it on, and for it to stay on. It's NOT a "modern kikt" but more the Braveheart kind. One really learns a lot... actually going through the process, I see! Way to go! Thank you for making this video! Inspired!

What is here is great but could be expanded. For example: when did the term chiaroscuro start being used? I am guessing the term was invented to describe a technique then long in use but it would be nice to know. Also a general timeline would be useful. First significant chiaroscuro painting’x’ by artist ‘y’ in year ‘x’, but seldom seen in Impressionist art.
